Organize a small space as efficiently as possible, so that you can sit comfortably and access everything. You are involved in this when you study aircraft engineering and design the cockpit of an aircraft. That cockpit literally became too small for me, I wanted to get bigger and before I knew it I had my own installation agency. I did everything: hot air guns in a sports hall, but also setting up the fryer at the snack bar on the corner. Everything became a lot, a lot of staff, a lot of mail, a lot of “all things”, in short: too much. I longed for something smaller, more organized. At that time I was working for the Dutch Railways, I renovated ticket & service counters. I noticed that the chairs were always broken and that nobody knew how to fix that. I did, and over time I repaired and traded chairs. Good seats! In an airplane, you don’t make concessions when it comes to quality and safety. We are now ten years further and IJburg now has, as far as I know, the only real office chair shop. With my name on it.

After my conservatory guitar training, I spent fifteen years in all kinds of bands and orchestra pits. All those decibels had a heavy burden on my hearing. I was looking for something else. Motivated by many hours of concentrated exercise on a stool, ergonomics had always been my interest. Physiotherapy, Mensendieck and Alexandertherapy, Many musicians will have to deal with it at some point. Simply the right attitude ensured that your complaints remained free and that you could continue to work. At Hans in the business I saw the opportunity to convert and transfer this practical experience. It is now already five years ago that I entered.
