Vitra DCW

Charles & Ray Eames, 1945/1946

The DCW (Dining Chair Wood) is evidence of the ultimate success of Charles and Ray Eames’ first experiments in which they sought ways to mold plywood into complex shapes. This iconic chair is made entirely of wood, making it look as modern today as when it was designed.

  • Back/seat: molded plywood with deck veneer of ash or walnut.
  • Base: molded plywood with the same deck veneer as the back and seat. The seat and backrest are attached to the frame by rubber-metal elements (shock mounts).
