Arranging a small space as efficiently as possible, so you can sit comfortably and reach everything. That is what you are doing when you study aeronautical engineering and design the cockpit of an aircraft. That cockpit literally became too small for me; I wanted bigger, and before I knew it, I had my own installation company. I did everything: hot air cannons in a sports hall, as well as setting up the fryer at the snack bar on the corner. Everything became a lot, a lot of staff, a lot of mail, a lot of “if only things,” in short, too much. I longed again for something smaller, something more manageable. At that time I was working for the Dutch Railways, remodeling ticket & service counters. I noticed that the chairs were always broken and no one knew how to fix it very well. I did, and over time I repaired and traded chairs. Good seats! In an airplane, you also don’t compromise when it comes to quality and safety. We are now ten years on and IJburg is now home to, to my knowledge, the only real office chair store. With my name on it.

I have been in the office design business since I was 14 years old. First with my own business. This has allowed me to build a large network with great relationships and great collaborations. In addition to my work, I also study Real Estate Studies, this made it increasingly difficult for me to be able to devote myself fully to the projects. Together with Scholtens Workplace, we continued to work together so that this would still be easy to combine and the customers could still be well served. In the end, we decided to merge this completely. So it is with great fun that I dedicate myself to being able to grow Scholtens Workplace for the future.

Motivated by many hours of concentrated practice sitting on a stool, ergonomics had always held my interest.

After my conservatory education in guitar, I spent fifteen years in all kinds of bands and orchestra boxes. All those decibels had taken a toll on my hearing. I was looking for something else. Motivated by many hours of concentrated practice sitting on a stool, ergonomics had always held my interest. Physical therapy, Mensendieck, Alexander therapy many musicians have to deal with it at some point. Simply, proper posture ensured that your symptoms remained free and you could stay at work. With Hans in the business, I saw the opportunity to convert and transfer this practical experience. By now it has been five years since I walked in.
