Vitra Cité

Jean Prouvé, 1930

The Cité armchair is an early masterpiece by French designer and engineer Jean Prouvé. Although he initially designed the comfortable and spacious armchair with powder-coated steel skids and leather armrests for student housing in Nancy’s Cité Universitaire, Prouvé also used it in his own living room.

Material Description
  • Upholstery: seat and back with continuous fabric or leather upholstery.
  • Upholstery: height-adjustable polyurethane foam neck cushion.
  • Seat height: 335 mm (210 mm with applied load, measured in accordance with EN 1335-1).
  • Base: bent sheet steel with powder coated (smooth).
  • Glides: plastic glides for carpet; optionally available with felt glides for hard floors.
